See mid-20th century images of shipyard buildings and facilities decorated for the holidays. Despite being an industrial facility, the shipyard did manage to make merry for the holidays with large outdoor signs, huge, homemade Christmas trees, and unique office decorations—most of which were crafted by the workers themselves.

This two-month temporary display showcases some of the many local African Americans who joined the Armed Forces during the mid-twentieth century. The photographs and captions come from the archives of the Portsmouth Star’s “Colored Notes” section, an African-American focused component of the local newspaper introduced by Jeffrey T.
