The Virginia Symphony Orchestra presents Artistry for the Soul

June 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

FREE CONCERT.  Please register to attend so we can accommodate the seating.

Artistry for the Soul, a celebration of the arts and human connection, is a special event curated by African-American Fellows for the Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s 23/24 season. This event highlights the importance of uplifting Black artistry and building community by performing a diverse program of Black composers from the 20th century and rising artists of today while providing insight into their musical backgrounds. This program will feature music that is sure to brighten and soothe the soul, with a combination of works inspired by spirituals, bluegrass, and contemporary classical music.

The VSO African American Fellowship Program has brought talented Black string players from across the country to expand their skill sets and gain experience within the musical field. Artistry for the Soul was initially created as part of their capstone project. This project allows them to broaden their administrative abilities through the curation of a creative public event. Originally held at the elegant setting of the Black-owned Brothers Restaurant in Norfolk, we are excited to expand this program to other parts of the Hampton Roads community and connect with a wider audience
