Lafayette – Light the Elizabeth – Portsmouth and Norfolk Welcome Lafayette

When Lafayette arrived in Hampton Roads on October 22, 1824, Portsmouth lit 42 bonfires on this side of the River.
Join us this October 22 for 42 fountains of light along with a laser light show. Help us welcome Lafayette in a modern style. Guests are invited to gather in the park just south of High Street Landing to view the fountains of light and the laser light show.
Following a Grande Welcome in Norfolk at 4:30, Lafayette will board the American Rover with James Fayette and other guests for a Sunset Cruise at 5:30. Just after sunset, the Portsmouth Seawall will be lit by 42 Fountains of Light to welcome Lafayette, as Portsmouth residents wave back to the General as he sails by! For those with work or school the next day, this is a GREAT midweek family event that ends in plenty of time to turn in early.
