Go Skate Daze 2024

Whew!! Time sure does fly when you’re having fun is an understatement. 2024 will be the 4th consecutive year that Hard Times Skate Shop, Portsmouth’s Park and Recreation Department and sponsors host Hard Times Go Skate Daze. The last 3 Years were nothing short of spectacular and 2024 won’t be any different.

Hard Times GO Skate Daze is a free 2 Day event that celebrates Juneteenth, skateboarding community, and family fun. The festivities will take place on June 19 &
21 at Cradock Skate Park and will be located at 4117 George Washington Highway.

June 19 –  4th Annual Juneteenth Jam.

The last 3 years this event has been very successful. Over the course of time, we have been able to create more awareness about the event and increase the public’s interest and participation in the Hampton Roads area. Last year’s Go Skate Daze event was featured in The New York Times.

On June 21 – Go Skate Daze

Kick off activities for the globally celebrated Go Skate Day holiday.Hard Times Go Skate Daze is becoming the way we start the summer in Portsmouth. Every year we try to add something different to the event for the community. In 2021 skateboard legend Clyde Singleton hosted the inaugural Juneteenth Jam. 2022 we celebrated our 10-year anniversary with a carnival themed party. Last year we wanted to focus more on giving back to our community. We were able to achieve this goal with the help of our sponsors by donating several complete skateboards to the local youth who had an interest in skateboarding but lacked the proper equipment. This year’s
event will be just as memorable. We have a few tricks up our sleeves.

Hard Times Juneteenth Jam is a Jam format skateboard contest and entry is always free. Our best
trick contest has been coined “Best Trick on the Bank” where skaters go all out in a timed best
trick session for COLD HARD CASH AND PRIZES. There will also be food trucks, vendors, games,
and much more. Hard Times Juneteenth Jam will start 11AM and end 5PM. So, get your gang
together and meet us at the PARK.

June 21 is Go Skate Day, a globally recognized holiday amongst skaters and it’s also officially the
first day of Summer. This year we will meet back up at Cradock Skate Park with the crew and have
a GRAND SESH (Good Time). Some of the activities we have planned are park clean up, beginner
skateboard lessons, refreshments, and a few giveaways. This is a great way to kick off the 1st day of
summer. Hard Times Go Skate Day events will kick off at 12PM and end at 4PM with the park clean
up.

Hard Times Go Skate Daze wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of our Partner and
Sponsors. Last year’s partner was Portsmouth Parks and Recreation, and our sponsors included
Dead Broke Skateboards, Carey Consultant, Michelle’s Décor, Cradock Civic League,
Electromagnetic Tattoo, Lester Garcia, Ashton Ian Davies, and Portsmouth Armie Navie. We also
received prizes and donations from Thrasher, DLX Distribution, Happy Hour Shades, Violet
Skateboards, Tum Yeto, Skate One, Welcome Skateboards and friends of Hard Times Skate Shop.

Hard Times Skate Shop is a core skateboard shop that specializes in the sale of skateboards,
skateboard related products, apparel, and footwear. We first open our doors for business on June
7, 2012, in the Cradock section of Portsmouth, VA. Hard Times mission is to provide individuals from
