Street Art Competition
The 757 Street Art Battle is a free artist empowerment and community building event with 6 successful iterations since the fall of 2020. With every event, we have raised the profile of underrepresented artists in Hampton Roads, and followed through with opportunities for exhibition and professional development for the over 36 artists who have participated in our art battle events. Through partnerships with the NEON District, Utopia Feni, the 757 Creative Reuse Center, OpenNorfolk, For All Handkind, The Vibe Creative District, The Contemporary Arts Network and more, we have made a significant impact already in the arts. This project proposal represents an opportunity to introduce the City of Portsmouth to an amazing community engaging, artistic experience.
During a two-hour live art competition, three talented artists from Portsmouth will engage in an exciting friendly competition using an array of mediums, including canvases, paints, spray paints and creative tools. The event will emphasize the transformative power of visual arts, enabling the audience to witness the creative process from inception to completion. Following the competition, esteemed guest jurors specializing in various fields of arts within Portsmouth will meticulously evaluate and judge the artworks. The participating artist will not only receive a stipend but also gain opportunities to showcase their work at galleries and participate in additional artistic endeavors that elevate their profile. This event will stand as a testament to our commitment to celebrating local talents, fostering community engagement, and accentuating the significance of art in Hampton roads identity.
