Celebrating 100 Years of Black History Month Exhibit

February 7 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until November 1, 2026

This special exhibit explores how African American history has been remembered, preserved and shared over the past century – and why that work matters now more than ever.

Visitors will discover the origins of Black History Month alongside a broader look at how communities honor the past through meaningful places, traditions and cultural events, from Hampton University’s Emancipation Oak to Juneteenth, the Umoja Festival and more.

At a time when Black history faces renewed challenges, this exhibit affirms Portsmouth’s commitment to preserving, sharing and amplifying Black voices – recognizing Black history as a vital and living part of the American story.
