    41st Annual TCC Student Art Show

    Visual Arts Center, TCC at Olde Towne - Ceramics, Drawing, Glass, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography. Featuring over 200 works by more than 100 students, works have been created for art classes since last May, and represent program courses in Studio Arts, Photography, Graphic Design, Pottery and Glassblowing.

    The Visual Arts Center is located at 340 High Street in Olde Towne Portsmouth. Galleries are open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily. Events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 757-822-1888.

    A Journey of 100 years: A Celebration of the Girl Scout Centennial Anniversary.

    Kids that can not yet ride a 2 wheeler are welcome to roll in on anything and dress up for a parade as a cowboy/cowgirl, police officer, or firefighter.

    The United States Air Force Band: Airmen of Note
    at Willett Hall

    8 PM - The premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force featuring 18 of the most talented jazz musicians in the country. "The Note" was created in 1950 to carry on the tradition of Major Glen Miller's Army Air Corps dance band.

    The 5th Annual CHURCHLAND spring Festival

    This festival, sponsored by the Churchland Regional Association of Businesses (C.R.A.B.) has become an annual fund raising event that is festive fun for the whole family with proceeds to benefit the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, Portsmouth Humane Society, Support Our Troops Foundation and Relay for Life.

    The event is open to the public free of charge. This year we have live musical performances and car show along with our 1st ever fabulous motorcycle show provided by the Barrel Restaurant and Lounge. The Book Owl will host a book signing and hold the famous "Everything is $1.00 sale" with thousands of books being offered and with all proceeds from this sale going to the leukemia/lymphoma society. Bangkok Garden will feature special cooking demonstrations and will showcase the culture of Thailand presented through Thai music and dancing.

    Weekend Power boat races

    Noon - 5:00 PM - Portsmouth offers one of the fastest race courses in the U.S. Several world records have been set on this well protected race site situated in a park setting.     The Raleigh Ringers at Willett Hall

    3 PM - An internationally acclaimed, advanced community hand-bell choir based in Raleigh, NC.     Portsmouth CERT Spring Basic Training

    6 class sessions - runs through May 5 - CERT trains community members so they may first help themselves, their family, and immediate neighbors and then -- if there is need -- assist other CERT members in responding to disaster needs in their neighborhood until professional responders are able to reach them.

    • The CERT Basic Training Course is FREE.
    • Participants MUST register in advance; space is limited.
    • Text and basic supplies are provided FREE.
    Students MUST attend ALL 6 class sessions, including a disaster simulation "practical", and pass a written final exam to get certified

    Avett Brothers at nTelos

    A folk-rock band from Mount Pleasant, NC, the band is brothers, Scott Avett and Seth Avett, who play the banjo and guitar respectively, and Bob Crawford who plays the stand-up bass. Joe Kwon, cello, and Jacob Edwards, drums, are touring members, with Kwon featured on recordings from 2007's "Emotionalism" to present. The Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky-tonk, and ragtime.

    The David Mayfield Parade is the opening act.
    Doors open at 7 p.m., and the concert begins at 8 p.m.

    Portsmouth Restaurant Week Begins

    Through May 5 - Time to be adventurous with your taste buds and come out to try out of this world appetizers, entrees and desserts. Once again, over 20 restaurants will be offering their best fare for patrons to sample. Most of the participating restaurants will provide price fix lunch menus and dinner menus. Some may be just providing a little something special in recognition of this special week in the Portsmouth culinary community.
